Before I begin, it would be really great if you could all give me a little bit of feedback on this human resource software site. Any suggestions on improvements would be fantastic!
Back in a time when the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore 64 were locked in battle, there was a groundbreaking game called ‘Exile’. I say ‘groundbreaking’ because it was the first ever time that real physics had ever been used in gameplay. By today’s standards it is not particularly impressive, but back in the time of its release, ‘Exile’ was a brave new world.
‘Exile’ puts you in control of a stranded astronaut. You must go around fulfilling a number of tasks in order to repair your ship and leave. There are puzzles to solve, objects to find and baddies to dodge or kill. But that is only a small part of your problem; the world on which you are stranded is large. Without making a map (or having a very good memory) you are soon likely to become lost.
As you traverse the alien landscape you will be able to float and bob around as you desire, but there are natural perils to look out for. Wind can hamper your progress and quickly blow you off course… Some objects will interact with alien creatures and you will need to discover which combinations are useful.
There had never been a game like ‘Exile’ before and it was a very exciting release. The sense of gravity on it is still impressive, even after twenty-two years.
Is it a game that you once had? If so (or if you just like the sound of it) then here is a useful link. Some clever so and so has created a very good remake; it is extremely faithful to the original and is just as much fun to play!
